Why is the product innovative?
The large top and bottom covers are co-injected on a 6600 ton multibarrel machine. External gas is used to press the molded plastic against the tool cavity to provide a uniform gloss and reduce/eliminate sink above the ribs or bosses. The co-injected core uses post-industrial recycled material. PC/ABS was chosen for the properties required and also because of its resistance to UV in white. The side doors (w/ logo) are molded in a 2-cavity co-injection mold running in a 1500-ton multibarrel machine. The band across the front is co-injected as well on a single-cavity tool. The 2-part grill is run in a 3-cavity tool. One cavity produces the lower grill mounted below the band. Two different sized grill cavities representing a small or large version of the upper grill section are opened or shut off depending upon the size needed. So only two of the three cavities are running at any given time.
